To prepare a sea pallet for LCL freight, you need to ensure it meets international shipping standards, including fumigation or plastic alternatives.
Here’s a step-by-step guide:
1. Choose the Right Pallet Type
- Fumigated Wooden Pallet: Must be heat-treated or chemically fumigated to comply with ISPM 15 regulations.
- Plastic Pallet: A great alternative that avoids fumigation requirements and is resistant to moisture.
2. Ensure Proper Pallet Size
- Standard sizes: 1200mm x 1000mm or 1200mm x 800mm pr 1200mm x 1200 mm or 1650 mm or 1650 mm
- Make sure the pallet fits within LCL container dimensions to avoid wasted space.
3. Secure Your Cargo
- Stacking Method: Use column stacking for stability.
- Void Fillers: Use foam or cardboard to prevent movement.
- Corner Protectors: Prevent damage to fragile items.
4. Wrap & Strap the Load
- Stretch Wrap: Secure the entire pallet with heavy-duty plastic wrap.
- Strapping: Use polyester or steel straps to reinforce stability.
5. Label & Mark the Shipment
- Shipping Labels: Include destination, consignee, and booking number.
- Handling Instructions: Mark “Fragile”, “Top Load Only”, or other necessary warnings.
6. Compliance Check
- If using wooden pallets, ensure they have the ISPM 15 stamp.
- If using plastic pallets, confirm they meet export regulations.
